Beaded Beauty Color Number Two

Happy Thanksgiving!

I finally made it to my second color-gold-on my beaded rose! This accomplishment is mostly due to the fact that I got a different needle. :) This new, life-saving needle is much sturdier then the last one!

Here is a close up. :)

As Christmas draws near I am reminded of how much I love the Holiday Season! I enjoy giving gifts and making crafts, and this is the best time of the year to snuggle up in a blanket and work on a project.

How are your projects going?

Oh, here's an afterthought. :) I might be doing Etsy sometime soon! I'll post a link if it works out!

Card Ornament Tip

Oh! If you decide to do this project here is a tip. When you glue the sections together you can hold them in place using clothes pins. (The kind that open and close) That helps when you are trying to get the edges all lined up. :)

Holiday Card Ornament

Good evening!

I found a great project last year for Christmas presents! Do you have old Christmas cards lying around that you will never use? Then this is the project for you! It is an ornament made of Christmas (or whatever other cards you have lying around) cards that is really gorgeous. You can find it on Martha Stewart's website. Just search "Holiday Card Ornament" and it should be the first thing that comes up. Here are some pictures to kind of show you the process.

My "semi-equilateral triangle" :)

Me lining up my scored and folded circles in an attractive manner.

These are some of the cards I used. I bought some this year so that my colors coordinated. That funky round thing is the top of my first ornament. :)

An attractive shot of my circles-and the light above the table...:)

I gave two of these as gifts last year, and the people I gave them to loved them! I will post some pictures of the final products when I get a chance. The gold glitter in these cards might show up in the ribbon I choose to hang them with! :)

Pompoms Galore

Have you all seen this new pompom yarn that has come out? It is so cool to knit with! I am making a purple-toned scarf out of it. The yarn inbetween each pompom is not even visible in the end product because the pompoms pile up on each other. When it is done it will be a big soft scarf!

Beaded Bag

Do you remember the roses that I posted a few days ago? Well I am happy and very pround to say that I have put five beads on so far! :) I have decided I like beading. The only thing I wish was different was the needle. It is so extremely flimsy. I poke it at the fabric in the place I want it to go and it comes up somewhere else!
Anyway, I'll post some pictures when I finish some more. :)

Crafty Bag 2

Hello Everyone!

I went through some of our fabrics to see if I could find a lining for the green bag and pocketbook. Here is what I came up with.
I am thinking of using the pink polkadot. It is really fun. What do you think?

Beaded Beauty

I have discovered a new art form! In my needlework class this month we learned about beading, and I am hoping to make a cute purse, tissue holder, and key fob as a Christmas present! The design on the purse is a single rose:

And the design on the tissue holder is two roses:
I am going to bead the flowers in amber, gold, and silver tones, to match my giftee's style. :)

I'll post some more as I continue to figure out this beading thing!

Crafty Bag

Hello Everyone!

I am working on Christmas presents (Can you believe it? Already?) and I came across a pattern I made a couple of years ago. It is a crotcheted market bag that you make with 100% cotton yarn. I decided to make some as gifts, line them, and make a matching pocket book! Here is what I have so far.
One down! Two pocketbooks and a bag to go!

Here is the colors of the second one. You can get the pattern for free on Lion Brand Yarns, and all you need is a size "I" needle.
Isn't this a pretty color?

I will post more pictures as I complete the projects!

Have a great day!

Inheritance

How many of you know that next month the final book in the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini is coming out next month? Probably the same number of you that know that part 1 of The Hobbit is coming out December 2012, or that the movie Beastly was a book first. How many of you have it pre-ordered?
You lucky dogs. :)
As much as I would like to have it pre-ordered, I will most likely be the girl who waits until the hype has settled and the book is paperback and priced a reasonable fifteen dollars. :) I have heard a lot of people mention how Paolini has taken ideas from other great writers like Tolkien and C. S. Lewis and turned them into his own. Honestly, I beg to differ. Paolini twists his plots too creatively to be copying someone before him, and he has elegantly created a world of his own. I would contend that the "best" ideas are inspired by other "best" ideas and I can see how Paolini has been inspired by other great writers, but he is definitely not a copycat. He is a writer that can stand on his own two feet and I believe he does that admirably well.

So! Go out and grab yourself a copy, of all the books! They are a great read. :)

Pillowcase #2 Elegant Italian Flare

Hello everyone! I have been really busy lately, working on all sorts of crafts and reading all sorts of books. :) Here is just one of my projects, which was a gift for my friend's wedding.
For such a complex and elegant look the number of stitches was surprisingly small. I did padded satin stitch, stem stitch, and running stitch. It did, however, take a long time to make, mostly due to the padded satin stitch. :)
What projects have you been working on lately?

Tis The Season

Dear Readers,

Tis the season for weddings! As summer wanes, I have been busy creating gifts for brides-to-be. Here is one such gift~the second I will post about later.

This is a gorgeous letter "F" that I embroidered with satin stitch and a touch of stem stitch. Surprisingly, it did not take me very long, and turned out more beautiful then I could have imagined from my sketch on the pillowcase. I hope the bride will love it!

By the way, if you like one of the designs you see and would like me to make a set of pillowcases for you, or someone else, all I need is the colors you would like, the design you chose, and the letter/s you would like on it! The cost is a very reasonable fifty dollars. Leave a comment!

Creativity is like a muscle: it has to be excersised before it becomes toned.

Really Rather True

A friend of mine showed me this, and I think it is a great read and really rather true. :)

DATE A GIRL WHO READS
- Rosemarie Urquico

“Date a girl who reads.
Date a girl who spends her money on books instead of clothes. She has problems with closet space because she has too many books. Date a girl who has a list of books she wants to read, who has had a library card since she was twelve.
Find a girl who reads. You’ll know that she does because she will always have an unread book in her bag. She’s the one lovingly looking over the shelves in the bookstore, the one who quietly cries out when she finds the book she wants. You see the weird chick sniffing the pages of an old book in a second hand book shop? That’s the reader. They can never resist smelling the pages, especially when they are yellow.
She’s the girl reading while waiting in that coffee shop down the street. If you take a peek at her mug, the non-dairy creamer is floating on top because she’s kind of engrossed already. Lost in a world of the author’s making. Sit down. She might give you a glare, as most girls who read do not like to be interrupted. Ask her if she likes the book.
Buy her another cup of coffee.
Let her know what you really think of Murakami. See if she got through the first chapter of Fellowship. Understand that if she says she understood James Joyce’s Ulysses she’s just saying that to sound intelligent. Ask her if she loves Alice or she would like to be Alice.
It’s easy to date a girl who reads. Give her books for her birthday, for Christmas and for anniversaries. Give her the gift of words, in poetry, in song. Give her Neruda, Pound, Sexton, Cummings. Let her know that you understand that words are love. Understand that she knows the difference between books and reality but by god, she’s going to try to make her life a little like her favorite book. It will never be your fault if she does.
She has to give it a shot somehow.
Lie to her. If she understands syntax, she will understand your need to lie. Behind words are other things: motivation, value, nuance, dialogue. It will not be the end of the world.
Fail her. Because a girl who reads knows that failure always leads up to the climax. Because girls who understand that all things will come to end. That you can always write a sequel. That you can begin again and again and still be the hero. That life is meant to have a villain or two.
Why be frightened of everything that you are not? Girls who read understand that people, like characters, develop. Except in the Twilightseries.
If you find a girl who reads, keep her close. When you find her up at 2 AM clutching a book to her chest and weeping, make her a cup of tea and hold her. You may lose her for a couple of hours but she will always come back to you. She’ll talk as if the characters in the book are real, because for a while, they always are.
You will propose on a hot air balloon. Or during a rock concert. Or very casually next time she’s sick. Over Skype.
You will smile so hard you will wonder why your heart hasn’t burst and bled out all over your chest yet. You will write the story of your lives, have kids with strange names and even stranger tastes. She will introduce your children to the Cat in the Hat and Aslan, maybe in the same day. You will walk the winters of your old age together and she will recite Keats under her breath while you shake the snow off your boots.
Date a girl who reads because you deserve it. You deserve a girl who can give you the most colorful life imaginable. If you can only give her monotony, and stale hours and half-baked proposals, then you’re better off alone. If you want the world and the worlds beyond it, date a girl who reads.
Or better yet, date a girl who writes.”

Blue Ruffle Shirt

Hey Everyone! I found this really cute t-shirt design on the Tea Rose Home blog! It isn't exactly the same, because the shirts I used were different, but it is still an adorable outfit!

Bloom, Baby, Bloom!

I am going to tell you a story. Don't worry, it's not too long.
Once upon this time last year, I went to the 4-H plant sale with my mom, and bought an African Violet. They are really hard to convince to bloom. And it hadn't bloomed until this month! So, I wanted to share it's beautiful flower with you!

Jacobian Pomegranate Take 2

School is out, and so is my needle. :) I have been working ferociously on my Jacobian Pomegranate, and the present that you can't tell about. Here is what I have so far on the pomegranate. Isn't it cool?

I am having so much fun with this, and it is just increasing my love of embroidery! So far I have done padded satin stitch, satin stitch, and stem stitch. Eeep! *Happy dance*
Better get back to work!

Give Yourself A Hand~Or Glove

Hello everyone!
It has been awhile, but I promised I would post about the 80's celebration we had. I decided to give a little tutorial on the gloves I wore.
They were surprisingly easy and very fun to make. :)

I began with two pieces of this black netting-like fabric. The pieces were the width of my hand and then tapered a little at the bottom. The first thing I did was sew up one side of the two pieces together. Right side to right side. :) After that I folded over the top of the glove a quarter inch and sewed it down to fortify the edge. Then, I cut another strip of the fabric, gathered it a little, and attached it to the bottom of the glove. The last thing to do is sew up the other side, but you have to make a hole for your thumb to go through. What I did was place my hand in the glove, and put two pins approximately where my thumb began and ended. Then, sew it up leaving that hole open. The hole for the thumb needs to be turned under and then: Taadaa! A finished glove!
Have fun and create!

Chasing Vermeer

For all of you out there who enjoy puzzles and patterns, this is the book for you! It is actually the first of two, I believe, the second one is The Wright 3.
In this book, two unlikely friends solve an ancient mystery involving art and a crime. It is a wholesome, well-written book that readers will enjoy!

Peace, Love, and ALL THAT ROCK AND ROLL

I just had a thought~Pithy titles are coming easier to me. YIPPEE!

The school year is coming to a close, and everyone is turning in final pieces of homework. The youth population of America lets out a big sigh of relief: Ahh, summer is almost here!
To celebrate the end of the year, we are having a decades party! 60's, 70's, and 80's: Here we come!
These decades are great for costumes and I am wavering between two styles: A "hippie" dress from the 70's and a Madonna/Cindi Lauper.

The Hippie Dress will probably look something like this:
Well, I don't think you can see that... So more like this:
(There we go)

I am going to make it out of a knit fabric that has large leaves on it. I think the effect will be charming. :)

Then, for the Madonna/Cindi look:

If I went this direction it would be toned down quite a bit-but it would be a cute costume that would nod its head to the 80's style.

I'll post pictures when the final costume is decided!!!

Try something adventurous today~you might find you like it. :)

Princess of the Midnight Ball

For all you readers out there, this is a great book.  (I'm doing a little experimenting with colors)

Dear Readers,

Princess of the Midnight Ball, by Jessica Day George, is an excellent book. It is a redo of the twelve dancing princesses-sort of. :) I would recommend it and give it five HUGE stars! It also has a sequel: Princess of glass, which is also an excellent read.
Have you heard that the fourth book in the Inheritance Cycle is coming soon?! I am super excited, and I want to re-read the first three books so that I can drink in every detail! :) If you have them, you can read along with me.

Cuddle up in a chair outside and enjoy this beautiful spring weather!

Shh!! Keep Quiet...

Guess what? I'm making pillowcases for a friend of mine's older sister whose getting married. Here's a picture, but you can't tell. :)
The "B" is going to be black, and the curlicues are going to be red and cream.

I am also making a vest.
It has yet to have buttons and buttonholes, but I will show you how to do one of those when I do them.

My crewel piece is coming along nicely! I'll post pics of that soon.

Yarn, Yarn, Yarn Yarn Yarn!

How many of you enjoy walking down a well-stocked aisle of yarn? I can tell you that it makes my day! The other day I spotted two colors of the new "trendy" yarn. Here they are:
Aren't they gorgeous?
Anyway, I want to crotchet (Or tie knots and weave) interesting scarves with them, but I have not been able to find a pattern that would go with the yarn. If you have any suggestions for patterns that would be awesome!!

Let those creative juices flow~Alexis

Redo, Refurbish, Reuse! "Peach Sweater"

There is a saying: "A lesson lived is a lesson learned." It's true. :)

Here is the completed sweater!
It came out really nicely, but the belt is so adorable I have to find some way to use it! My mind has begun racing...

Meanwhile... I have this lovely Jacobean Crewel piece that I am going to make. It is really complicated, and it is probably going to take me awhile. :)
I hope this inspires you to create things of your own!!! ~Alexis

Redo, Refurbish, Reuse! "Peach Sweater"

So.... The belt is a little too bulky for the sweater-I think. We will see what happens with that. I might use some brown ribbons and tie bows to hold the sweater shut....

Things are moving along!!! Final Pictures to come!!!

Redo, Refurbish, Reuse!

I have decided to expand my blog! Besides reading and writing, I love to sew and embroider. For this new section~Redo, Refurbish, Reuse!~ I will be "recycling" clothing to make it more chic and interesting.

I started with a knitted pullover sweater in a lovely peach color that was a little large and needed some fixing up. I cut straight down the middle of it, using the point of the v-neck as a guide. Then I cut off the ribbed border at the bottom and attached some lace to it-This will end up being a tie for the sweater.
I felt that since the sweater was a solid color that the cream lace would add a nice touch.
Next, I pinned the front of the sweater with the unfinished part folded twice so it wouldn't unravel. I intentionally took a significant amount of it and folded it over so that the sweater will lay open an inch or two-as shown.

Having it lay this way will really show off the belt, which will tie right in the middle, and it will also show off whatever you are wearing underneath.
This is all I have so far, but the rest will be coming soon!!!!!!

It is a Sin Not to Read This Book

It is a sin to kill a mockingbird...

I have changed the order of the books and have inserted To Kill A Mockingbird before Redwall. After Redwall we will read as many Brian Jacques books as I can get my hands on in memory of an amazing author-One of the greatest.

I have begun journeying through the town of Maycomb Alabama, and I have contracted an unavoidable disease: the giggles. Harper Lee has Scout tell her story in a way that leaves me breathless! Oh, to be an author like that!

Here is a list of the major characters to get you started.

Scout: she is the narrator.
Jem: Scout's brother.
Atticus: Jem and Scout's father and the town's lawyer. He is also on the State legislature.
Dill: Jem and Scout's summer playmate.
Boo Radley: A mysterious character which everyone seems to know something about, but we haven't actually seen him yet. :)
Miss Maudie: One of Scout's neighbors.

I think that's enough to get you started!

This is Alexis, reporting from Maycomb: "Read On!"

Sing a Song..

Sigh. We have finished a wonderful book! I won't tell you how it ends, in case you want to read it for yourself. I am considering changing the order of some of the books on my list. I will let you know what the next one is when I decide! :)

How To Entertain Your Dragon

Dragons are known for keeping their prisoners alive for months so they can be "entertained." I suppose that eating everything in sight would make dragons a lonely species. Anyway, dragons love to watch a craftsman (or woman) at their work. Princess Addie's special talent lies in embroidery so she begins to embroider a portrait of Vollys, all the while planning her escape.

Dragon Killer?

Princess Addie has made good use of her seven league boots. So far she has defeated one ogre by ramming it into a watch tower, one specter (With Rhys' help), and seven gryphons (by gorging them with a magic table cloth).

Now she is in the clutches of the dragon Vollys.

Can she kill a dragon? Can meek, frightened, untrained Addie kill a DRAGON?

She has to.

In a Land of Strange Sights...

Here is a list of characters you might meet when you go on a quest in Bamarre.

Specter~ A monster that can take on any form. It's main goal is to deceive and kill humans by "leading" them to someone they love or something they want, hiding a fatal cliff or other obstacle from the victims' view. When (If) they are discovered, they begin to vanish. You can ask them one question at this point (Which they have to answer, although they don't always know the answer, and they usually answer in riddles.) if you can keep them from disappearing. To keep them from disappearing you must shout at them to stay. They leave no footprints.

Gryphon~ Gluttonous monsters that fly. They have beaks, lion's hides and eagle's feathers, but the latter two are disgustingly tattered and scarred. They will eat until they die from gorging. They are not very bright.

Ogre~ Another no-so-bright monster of the Bamarrian plains. Their speech sounds like rocks colliding, and they stand taller then the tallest man. They like to crush their victims with rocks.

Dragon~ Large. It's scales, when detached, can make a filling soup when placed in water, warm you when stuffed in your clothes, and keep mice out of your home when placed on the mantle. Their eyes turn wine red when they flame. At other times their eyes are translucent. Their bodies seem to be made of heat. Heat surrounds them wherever they go. They are known to be cunning, and they keep their human prisoners for months on end to be entertained by them. They love treasure.

Sorcerer~ They are born when lightning strikes marble. The flame that results fuels them their entire lives. When it goes out, they do to. They don't have to eat or sleep. Their eyelashes are white, while the rest of their hair is black. They do magic and are not generally evil.

Poor Princess Addie. She has relied on her sister Meryl her whole life as her protector and comforter. Now the positions are reversed. Will Addie find the courage to save her sister and her kingdom? Find out soon!

The Cat is Out of the Bag

Dear Readers,

I must confess something. A wonderful something!!! I have started writing a book! It is not my first, (My first of considerable length is currently in the editing stage) but it is a book nonetheless, and each new book that is begun is an exciting thing, don't you think?
Right now my main character is well, in a strange situation. You see, he has a green eye and a brown eye. The green eye sees truth (which I have defined as "what a thing is made of" equivalent to equations, symbols and analysis charts about the thing being "truthed") and the brown eye sees much more...
He has just discovered this anomaly when he is approached by a man he can only see when he covers his green eye. (Here is another explanation. Later on, my main character will find out that the two eyes cancel each other out when they are both being used.)
Anyway, that is what I am working on this New Year!
Why don't you pick up a pencil?
